Researchers and artists of all disciplines and any geographical origin: we would like to offer you the opportunity to participate to the first International Lebanese Biennale for Cinema and Arts (BLICA).
An open call for a multi-disciplinary competition in 2016-2017
The competition was conceived and initiated by Jocelyne Saab, filmmaker, founder and director of the Cultural Resistance Film Festival, by the film historian Mickaël Robert-Gonçalves, responsible for the international and multi-disciplinary Oscar Niemeyer competition, by the philosopher Andrés Claro, and by the architect Daniel Guibert.
The International Lebanese Biennale for cinema and arts will be held in 2017 at the Modern and Contemporary Art Museum (MACAM) in Alita/Byblos (Jbeil).
MACAM is the first contemporary art museum in Lebanon. A large concrete factory compound on a hilltop near Byblos has been transformed by an NGO into a dynamic museum. Founded in 2013 with the aim to preserve, document, exhibit and foster art in Lebanon, its permanent exhibition showcases a century of art in Lebanon through four hundreds artworks by eighty artists. Theme of the competition: “rupture in the representation of the real”
Two texts were submitted to serve as inspiration, as fertile land for the coming creations to be sown in. They propose different possible approaches to thinking and developing an in situ work – with the idea of rupture in the representation of the real in A. Claro’s text, and parataxe in that of D. Guibert. The texts also serve as the first works dedicated to the competition:
“The “Niemeyer City” competition: incompletion and the sense of history” by Andrés Claro
“Parataxis and para()sites” by Daniel Guibert
